The vision of the department is to be a nationally recognized center of excellence and referral unit for exemplary education, patient care services and research in oro-facial diagnostic sciences.The mission of our Dept is to generate new knowledge through relevant research, stimulate a critical approach to guide students in the process of independent learning, thereby contributing to the delivery of competent newly graduated dentists and postgraduates. We also strive to provide diagnostic pathological, microbiological and forensic odontology services of the highest quality and create a stimulating and pleasant environment in which students and personnel can thrive. In the future we aim to establish advanced diagnostic facilities by building a competent molecular biology lab with advance facilities of stem cell research. We also aim to establish a microbiology lab with facilities for aerobic and anaerobic culture techniques. I believe in the motto “Dream big, stay positive, work hard and enjoy the journey.”

OVERVIEW OF THE DEPARTMENT

Oral Pathology and Microbiology is that part of pathology and a branch of dentistry concerned with the scientific study of oral diseases to reach an accurate histopathological diagnosis to device the best possible treatment plan. Oral pathologists are instrumental in the confirmatory diagnosis of the diseaseand assisting in setting the course of intervention The Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology and Microbiology deals with teaching undergraduate students till third year BDS course with key focus on theoretical and practical knowledge of the subject. The department is also successfully training Postgraduate students with an annual intake of 3 per year since 2016. The department is well equipped with state-of-the-art research microscope, Penta-head microscope, Immunohistochemistry, Histopathology, Serology, Cytology and Hematology laboratories. The department library offers a wide array of textbooks on the subject and related topics. The department also has a museum and seminar room. The Department receives diverse patient population providing the undergraduates and postgraduates with exposure to a large variety of clinical cases, providing ample clinico-pathological research opportunities. The deparment caters to over 10,000 clinical investigations and more than 500 biopsies annually. Additionally, the Department has more than 5000+ archived cases available for study and research projects.

Activities

CDE Programs- Organized “INDIA CAN- Indian oral cancer awareness program” on 25th October 2019 organized in collaboration with Indian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologists.
